Forthcoming policy developments
The government is engaged in an ongoing dialogue with Hungarian youth on EU and global issues. The two pillars of this are the National Youth Dialogue Working Group and the UN Youth Delegate programme. The government aims to ensure that the Youth Dialogue Working Group represents the interests and opinions of young people in the most appropriate and representative way possible. To this end, with the conclusion of the 10th cycle of the European Youth Dialogue in 2024, negotiations have begun with youth advocacy organizations (such as with the National Youth Council) and civil society organizations, as well as relevant government actors, regarding the future role and composition of the Working Group (based on information from the Ministry of Culture and Innovation in 2024).
During the Hungarian EU Presidency, the Council of the European Union adopted the 'Glocal' opportunities for young people in rural and remote areas in 2024. The adoption of the Council Conclusion was preceded by a social consultation, which the government conducted with youth and youth workers' organizations focusing on rural youth. In addition, a European-level consultation process supported the creation of the conclusion. The aim of the reform is to involve rural, disadvantaged young people in decision-making processes more actively.
